The Žiegždriai escarpment, which stretches 400 m along the coast of Kaunas Reservoir, is a state-protected object of natural heritage in the district of Kaunas, in the neighborhood of Samyliai. The height of the escarpment reaches 22 m. The top of the escarpment above the current sea level is raised by 64-66 m. The Žiegždriai escarpment is a geological value that testifies to the complex structure of the slopes of Nemunas Valley (now Kaunas Reservoir) and a very interesting natural development in the post-glacial period. The history of the first millennials of the last glacier in Lithuania, the glacier lagoon, the post-glacial age may be restored by exploring the layers of the Žiegždriai escarpment.
