The mound dates back to the 1st millennium. This hill fortress is 20 metres high, with steep slopes at an angle of 35° or 40°. The central plateau at the top is about 30 metres long and 20 metres wide. At the eastern slope you can notice a grey-coloured cultural layer, while in a ploughed field to the northwest there are faint remains of where a homestead stood, which are discernible because of their darker colour. Here shards of clay have been found stuck to pieces of large rocks. In a ploughed field at the bottom of the eastern slope, a fragment of a plate with an uneven surface was found. There are great views from the top of the Vištytis hill fortress. To the East, the Vištytgiris forest stretches like a dark green band; to the West, the ripples on Lake Vištytis seem close enough to touch by hand, as does the town of Vištytis.
