The Vecekrugas Dune (Old Tavern Dune), standing 64.5 meters tall, is the highest dune in the Curonian Spit. Its name comes from the Curonian words "vece" (old) and "kruogs" (tavern), recalling a tavern that once stood at the foot of the dune in the 19th century. At the top of the dune, which is planted with mountain pines, there is a viewing platform offering breathtaking views of the Curonian Spit's natural beauty. From here, the shoreline of the Curonian Lagoon becomes distinctly visible, Bulvikis Cape can be seen, and the sound of the Baltic Sea brings a deep sense of tranquility. Riding along the bike trail, one can see the majestic Vecekrugas Dune, shaped like a perfect pyramid and draped in a green forest blanket. In the unique landscape of the Curonian Spit, set against the open sky, it unexpectedly resembles Japan’s iconic Mount Fuji.
