The name comes from the word „urbti“ meaning drilling small pits in the sand for the pine tree seedlings. Urbo hill was one of the first dunes that was planted with pine tree seedlings in 1874. By the Koningsberg‘s authority‘s initiative, Nida‘s lighthouse building works were started at the same time.
