The name of the mountain comes from the word "drill" - which means to “drill” pits for seedlings in the sand. It is one of the first dunes planted with trees by locals. Planting works have been carried out since 1874. At the same time, at the initiative of the Karaliaucius Government, the construction of the Nida lighthouse was started.
