Svilė springsare among the most impressive and the largest springs in Lithuania. A spring-rich meadow has more than 100 springs of different sizes. Svilė, a cold-water brook, collects their waters and carries them down to Venta–Dubysa Canal. Its water contains highly rare species of algae and water insects surviving from the ice age. In June, the endangered Lithuanian orchids, dactylorhiza baltica, bloom on the costs. Svilė springs have been declared a hydrogeological natural monument included in the list of Natura 2000 sites that are important for the conservation of European Union habitats. The old people believed that the water from the springs had special powers and helped people to recover. The water from Svilė springs remains highly valued. People use it not only for cooking, but also for treating various diseases.
