Schonchel Island is the smallest island in the northern part of Plateliai Lake, in the Plateliai Landscape Reserve. The name of the island comes from the Samogitian word "šončiai", which means rampart, hedgehog. The long and narrow island is overgrown with single trees. The area of the natural heritage object is 0.05 ha
