They managed to descend at night and relay important news and thanks to them the castle was liberated. Castrum Medewagilin was first mentioned in the Teutonic Chronicles in 1316. This time the castle did not dare to attack, but in 1329 the combined armies of the Teutonic Order and King John of Luxembourg of the Czech Republic defeated an army of 6,000 defenders of the castle, persecuted the land, and baptized the community after persistent battles, but the latter soon returned to the old faith.
