The second mound of Papilė on the right bank of River Venta is also called the Mount Pašalpa. It is associated with the nearby Pašalpa cemetery. The second mound of Papilė, just like the same as the first one, was first mentioned in the work of Polish archaeologist L. Krzywicki work. Unfortunately, during the exploratory expedition, the archaeologist measured only the first mound. The second mound is mentioned in the works of M. Valančius and P. Tarasenka, but the reports of these authors indicate only the first Papilė mound. The second mound was explored in more detail only during exploratory archaeological research in 1978. The team led by A. Varnas mainly studied the north-western part of this mound. The report states that during the excavations the cultural layer and ancient articles were not detected and it was stated that the mound was in poor condition. Currently, the mound is included in the Register of Cultural Property and is legally protected until the entire site has been identified and extensive exploratory archaeological research has been carried out.
