Devil's pit - Škilietai alko ravine is 4 km northwest of the town of Aukštadvaris. Surrounded by forests and hills, it is located in the Mergiškiai Landscape Reserve. It is the queen of the ravines of Lithuania - a monument of nature. It is a unique mythological and sacral object. It is the shape of a typical funnel, with a depth of 40 m. The upper diameter is 210 m and the lower diameter is 60 m. There is a small high bog at the bottom of ravine. It has a 10 m thick layer of peat. A variety of hypotheses have been created about the origin of the Devil's pit. One of the first to say the hole was knocked out by melting water falling off a high iceberg. After geological studies of the pit, the hypotheses of termonary and meteoric origin were settled. Folklore records many stories about the Devil's Pit, and many legends have been created.
