Krekenava area is famous for the life and works of Lithuanian folk artist, wood carver Vincas Svirskis who lived in XIX-XX century. He created unique crosses and chapel columns. The works of V. Svirskis can be found in Iciūnai village, Vadaktėliai Church. Vincas Svirskis was born in 1835 in Glitėnai village, Krekenava district in a large family of peasant tenants. Some of V. Svirskis' brothers died in the uprising, others were deported to Siberia by the Russians. V. Svirskis started to curve crosses. It is estimated that he made five oak crosses a year.
