Objectives of establishment
The Minija Strict Nature Reserve protects the natural complex of the Minija loop near the village of Vaitkių, a particularly valuable hydrographic and biocenotic complex of European Community importance, with streams with grey grouse communities, steppe meadows, eutrophic tall grasses, hay meadows of mesophytic grasslands, species-rich sandy woods, ravine and slope forests, riparian woodland, alluvial forests, habitats of non-calcareous springs and vernal pools, siliceous rock outcrops, springs with emerging tuffs, habitats for protected animal species, especially the shrew, the tule, the cartoolan, the oval pipit, the common shrew, the common hammerhead shrike, the wedge-billed shrew, the otter, and the river lamprey.
