Objectives of establishment

The Gomerta Landscape Reserve protects the landscape of a particularly distinctive landscape of the East Samogitian Plateau fluvio-glacial glacial margin hill with subglacial and glaciolacustrine landforms, with a significant geomorphological, hydrological, botanical-zoological, archaeological, mythological and historical value, with populations of Sitka spruce in the Butki Forest and the Šaukoto Forest, alkaline bogs of European Community importance, non-calcareous springs and vernal pool wetlands, intermediate marshes and lochs, western taiga, broad-leaved and mixed forests, herbaceous spruce forests, swamp deciduous forests, alluvial forests and swamp forests, habitats of protected plant and animal species, in particular the spotted mayfly, habitats of the common swallow, swamp hazel, spotted cuckoo, steep-leaved cuckoo, two-leaved bog-rush, slender birch, otter, armoured shrew, white-necked shrew, white-cheeked shrew, golden-cheeked shrike, and golden-cheeked warbler.
