The Alantas Landscape Reserve protects the valley of the left tributary of the Minija River, the Alantas valley, with its numerous tributaries, rivulets, springs, the mounds of Vėlaičiai and Kartena with their settlements, and the habitats of protected species of animals, especially of the shrike, the tule, the cartwheel, the oval pipistrelle, the common shrew, the hammer-headed shrike, the wedge-bill, the otter, and the river lamprey.
