Nature School of the Žuvintas Biosphere Reserve

The Nature School is located in the Žuvintas Biosphere Reserve, Kampeliai 10, Aleknonys, Alytus district. Žuvintas Nature Reserve is the first protected area in Lithuania and the first and only biosphere reserve in Lithuania. The nature school offers an opportunity to get acquainted with the characteristics of most of the birds and wetland habitats found in Lithuania, and learning in an unconventional environment not only provides knowledge, but also develops creativity and cooperation between group members, and forms social and emotional skills. The influence of nature reduces the feeling of stress, activities in nature develop and increase physical activity, and knowledge gained through experiences and images stimulates children's imagination and memory.

Vision of the Nature School: Through children's ecological education - to the harmony of man and nature. (Children's ecological education - the path to harmonious coexistence with nature).

Nature School Mission:

Community – to strive for the doors of the nature school to be open to all children and adults, so that it becomes a space that awaits all who want to get to know the first protected area in Lithuania and its values.

Nature – through observation and knowledge, to help children understand themselves as a part of the whole, to awaken the desire to know nature, to respect, love and protect the surrounding environment. So that observing nature becomes a constant process that takes place in everyday life.

Personality – to encourage and develop children's curiosity, to grow spiritual, intellectual, emotional and physical qualities through experience and acquaintance with nature.

The nature school invites you to visit:  all season from monday to friday.
Nature lessons, organization of environmental education programs - 3 EUR/person.

The nature school provides accommodation services for education participants. Accommodation price for 1 person - 19 EUR.

TOPICS OF FAMILIAR LESSONS IN ŽUVINTAS

"Žuvintas - the cradle of Lithuanian mute swans"

The education is intended for students in grades 1-4. Its goals are:

• to find out why mute swans are depicted in the logo of the Žuvintas Biosphere Reserve,
• to learn to distinguish between mute swans and whooper swans,
• to listen to recordings of different types of sounds/voices,
• to compare the sizes of swan and chicken eggs (measurement of the model),
• to talk about eating habits,
• to make a swan domino mask in groups.
