Žagarė Ridge – long undulating and picturesque hill, 8 km long, formed in the Ice Age. it is one of the longest sandy ridge in Lithuania but also perhaps the most attractive as there are no other hills around it. The Žagarė Ridge was formed in the Ice Age. The sand was brought and deposited by rivers and streams running from glaciers. One of the most impressive part of the Ridge is Žvelgaitis Mound. Archeological research proved that there was a wooden castle on this mound in the 13th century and an ancient settlement, which occupied 3 hectares, was in the northeast and the southeast foots.
