The Verknė river starts in the village of Galaverknys, in the Vilkokšnis Landscape Reserve. Small springs flows into a stream with a flow distance of 50 m from the origins to 2 l/s on the lawn of 0.04 ha. The source valley is rich in herbaceous vegetation, black alders and willows. The water is clear, odourless and tasteless and used by local residents for drinking and domestic consumption. It is a hydrographic object of natural heritage protected by a municipality.
