Ventė Cape Ornithological Station is located on a narrow peninsula on the eastern shore of the Curonian Lagoon. Founded in 1929 by prof. T. Ivanauskas. Here, through the Ventė Cape, on the eastern shore of the Baltic Sea, stretches one of the largest bird migration routes through which up to 200 thousand birds fly daily. Bird migration is one of the most mysterious and as yet unexplained wildlife phenomena. Every spring and autumn, millions of birds fly over our country, traveling to or from their native lands. A couple of thousand crows, swallows, titmouse and other small birds are ringed each year.
