Thom Mann‘s summerhouse stands at the top of Uosve‘s hill, in Nida‘s Skruzdyne‘s street. He was a German writer and Nobel Prize winner. During 1930-1932 he stayed here with his parents and wrote "Joseph and his brothers." After the Second World War, the summerhouse stood empty for some time. Klaipeda‘s library‘s reading room and writers memorial exposition was opened in 1965. Lithuanian and German governments provided funding and renovated the summer house in 1995-1996. Thom Mann‘s cultural center was established. Later on, the memorial museum was opened. During the summers, classical music as well as poetry evenings are taking place. Every year Thom Mann‘s cultural center organizes the international T. Mann‘s festival for the visitors.
