The complex of Švč. Mergelės Marijos Sopulingosios church is from begining of the 20th century period of historicism. These are works of extraordinary building courage - the project of Riga's engineer architect Ignotas Morgulcas - Goris carved stone masonry church and its cemetery fence. The magnificent church, which today has a 72 m high tower, emerges during 1906-1911 thanks to the stubbornness of priest Antanas Kryžanauskas. Unfortunately, like many sacral buildings in Lithuania, it was damaged during World War II: the highest (wooden) part of the church tower was destroyed during the bombing of the Germans, the stone top was damaged, and the church roof was destroyed. As the tower collapsed, the interior of the church also suffered, especially the organ and stained glass windows. Still, from 1989-1995 on the initiative of the pastor Kazimieras Girnius, with the help of Algirdas Vapšius, an engineer from Salakas, who was the Deputy Minister of Construction at the time, the church was repaired.
