The Chapel of the Old Dūkštas
The Chapel of the Old Dūkštas - a vernacularly shaped object from the end of 19th century, associated with the ensemble of Old Dūkštas manor. The chapel is open to the visitors. Its roof is connected to the foundation by rectangular red brick columns. The chapel is characterized by an octagonal plan, with a wooden, shingled roof. During the Soviet era, the chapel was abandoned, and after 1990 - ramshackled. The chapel is a significant part of the nation's cultural heritage entered in the Register of Cultural Values of the Republic of Lithuania in 2005. There is a wooden cross with a sculpture of the Crucified inside the chapel. The cross at its rectangular apex is embedded at the intersection of the wooden roof beams. The sculpture of the Crucified itself is a work of folk creation, with static, inaccurate, generalized forms. The sculpture was stolen more than 25 years ago. A new one was carved by folk artist P. Gaižutis, with the exterior being repaired by V. Gervelis.
