The village of Bertašiūnai is home to French Hill, also known as the "bitter" hill. It is said that during the French Age (1807-1813), a French soldier once froze to death on the hill, and the hill has since been named Prancūzkalnis. The local population still remembers the legends told by their great-grandparents that Napoleon Bonaparte himself stopped here for a short rest.
