It is one of the monuments of the Šereiklaukis archaeological complex. "In the legend of Skalvian hero Sareika (Šereika) " there are preserved historical knowledge about Šereika, the brave commander. A defensive castle is believed to have been parked on the mound of Šereiklaukis, near the confluence of the Nemunas and the Sea rivers, where Šereika, the last leader of the skalvian tribe died. Archaeological surveys of the 20 th and 21 st centuries confirmed the existence of two hills, three settlements and two cemeteries in the Šereiklaukis neighborhood. The hill of Šereiklaukis dates back to the thirteenth century due to its powerful fortifications. This hill was discovered in 1988 by archaeologist Valdemaras Šimėnas, linking the similarity of the name of Šereiklaukis and the name of the skalvian tribal leader Šereika and the castle mentioned in the Chronicle near the confluence of Jūra and Nemunas. The cultural value of the mound is exceptional - it is the only monument in North Skalva that directly resembles the skalvians struggles against the Crusaders. A settlement, known as Sidabrakalnis (Silver Mountain), has been found northeast of the hill, according to filing. There is another cemetery adjacent to it, where nineteen tombs of the fifth - to seventh centuries were found.
