It is located at the confluence of the Nemunas and Dubysa rivers, on their right banks, 700 m southeast of the Seredžis Castle Mound. The mound consists of a small hill and a rampart to the west of it. The site is almost square, 50x55 m in size. The slopes are moderately steep, 3,5 m high.

The Crusader castle Dubysenburg, built in 1406, was rebuilt and enlarged in 1407. It was the residence of Michael Kiuchmeister, the Teutonic Knights' governor of Samogitia. The castle was accessed by a bridge, there was a mill next to the castle and a chapel in the castle itself. The castle arsenal consisted of a number of arrows and artillery shells. When the Samogitian Uprising broke out in 1409, the Crusaders burnt the castle down themselves and retreated. In the 16th and 18th centuries, it was the site of the Sapiegas' Mežiriečė manor.
