In 1986, a museum dedicated to S. Daukantas was established in a Samogitian farmhouse, formerly an altar, near the church in the town of Papilė, where S. Daukantas spent the last years of his life (founded by the Akmenė District Municipality Administration). It displays editions of S. Daukantas' writings and facsimiles of documents, as well as etchings and engravings by artists A. Každailis, A. Surgailienė, R. Šakalys, A. Švažas from Papilė, and others. The poet Justinas Marcinkevičius donated the manuscript of his drama "Daukantas" to the museum. The museum has become a venue for chamber events, poetry readings, and interesting meetings. A recently discovered old stone-paved path leading to the Venta River inspired the idea to establish the Lakštingalų Valley. Every May, cozy poetry evenings are held there. An exhibition of local household items is set up next to the museum.
