Raktės, or Raktuvės, is a hillfort located on the western edge of the town of Žagarė, on the right bank of the Švėtė stream, about 100 m from the riverbed and 700 m east of Žvelgaičio Hill. The hillfort of Raktuvės was the site of the castle of the Samogitians. Raktė was first mentioned in historical sources in 1272, when the Livonian Order attacked and burned down the castle, although some researchers claim that it was mentioned as early as 1198. Archaeological finds prove that this place was inhabited as early as the 1st millennium BC. The Raktuvės Chapel, a wooden folk architecture building constructed in the 17th century, stands on the hillfort. In the 18th century, the Catholic cemetery of the town of Žagarė was opened on the hillfort site.
