The first partisan units in Panevėžys region were formed in 1944. One of them was the squad of the police captain Stasys Eitminavičius-Rupūžėnas. In Pašiliai forest in November 1944 five partisan dugouts and slots for machine guns were installed. Each dugout accommodated 20-30 people. Stasys Eitminavičius loved the expression "poor toad", so the group was named "Poor toad" or "Rupūžėnas". The squad was one of the largest in Panevėžys region. In the spring of 1945 the partisans retreated to the forests of Upytė and divided when they learned that the NKVD unit was preparing to attack the dugouts. S. Eitminavičius was killed in 1947. The dugout was rebuilt in 2004.
