One of the most popular and frequently visited places in Viekšniai is the memorial museum of aviator Aleksandras Griškevičius, established in 1981 in the house where this interesting man lived in the mid-19th century. Aleksandras Griškevičius is considered the pioneer of aviation in Lithuania. He worked as a clerk in courts and other government institutions, and in his free time devoted himself to the study of flight theory and philosophy, designed and, it is said, built flying machines himself. He described one of his designs in a book published in 1851, Žemaičio garlėkys (The Samogitian Falcon). It was supposed to be a steam engine with a propeller-driven aerostat with horizontal wings.
