The Merkinė Observation Tower stands in Merkinė, on the right bank of the Nemunas. For good reason, this 26-metre-tall tower has been healed by a poetic name - “Pine Grove.” The tower does not dominate the environment, it seems to dissolve into the pine forest, and the size, color, arrangement of its pillars seems to form a “group of trees,” a kind of foyer and replicate the surrounding pines. Irregularly shaped viewing areas resemble pine crown and the staircase that connects them is a path that curves between tree trunks. The height of the steps and the location of the pitches make it perfect for a visitor of any age to climb the tower, but most importantly, the Nemunas landscape opens from the tower in front of them with birds diving in the sky and Nemunas, and the island of Pastraujas below. The Merkinė Bridge and Merkinė roofs are also visible. Above the roofs The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary to the Heaven, the tip of the country's museum could be seen.
