Kings and dukes hunted in the forests of the Merkinė area, the bells of four churches rang, monks rewrote sacred and scientific books in two monasteries, and Lithuania's most beautiful women danced in the chambers. As we walk around Merkinė, we will look for the seal by which Jogaila granted Magdeburg law to the city of Vilnius, traces of love from the king and the house where the Grand Duke of the Polish Grand Duke Vaza IV died. We will visit the Hill of Crosses, the largest memorial for Lithuanian guerrillas, and climb the hill from which one of Lithuania's most beautiful images opens.
