The Lyduvėnai Mound is also known as the Danute Mound. According to legend, once upon a time there was a castle on the mound, where the princess Danutė lived. She sent her beloved off to war with the Crusaders and did not wait for him to return. Alone, she shed tears and the Lyduva River was formed. Danutė was sad alone and that is the origin of the name of the place - Liūdžiuvėnai, Liūdavėnai, Lyduvėnai.
