Lūžai stone with bowl or ancient cult site
The stone is a man-made boulder, irregularly cylindrical in shape, 1.15-1.3 m in diameter and 0.8 m high. Its sides are covered with 3 cm wide grooves. A bowl carved in the middle of the top plane of the stone. Stone in about 1970-1971 was unexpectedly discovered by a man while gathering mushrooms. He informed the engineer of Antalieptė and a wise man A. Žilėnas, about the interestingly shaped stone. Thanks to him, heritageists were informed about the location of the stone. In 1971 Archaeological excavations have revealed two fire places: the first was found at the north-west side of the stone, approximately 100x40 cm in size, and the second at the south side of the stone, which was slightly larger. A 10-15 cm thick cultural layer was found in them - a layer of coal and burns. The cultural layer with its findings allowed to form the assumption that the Lūžai stone with a bowl is the 13th-18th century a place of worship similar to the shrines of Mosėdis, Utena, which existed even 100-200 years after the introduction of Christianity.
