To commemorate the tenth anniversary of Lithuania's independence in 1928, it was decided to build a monument in Dusetos. A committee of 5 people was formed to build the Independence Monument. The monument was completed in 1932. In 1952, by order of the local government, the monument was demolished: the pedestal was buried, the statue was dropped into Lake Sartai and disappeared, and by 1985 a square was fenced in the place of the monument. restored to its former location. A copy of the sculpture is erected on the pedestal.
