Papilė first mound (unique object code in the Register of Cultural Property 23852) dates back to the second half of the 1st millennium AD - 14th century. The mound was first studied back in 1906 by L. Krzywicki. During other exploratory archaeological research, more than 160 finds were found in the mound's cultural layer: broken parts of moulded pots, various work tools, ornaments. The grave of historian Simonas Daukantas can also be visited in the cemetery on the territory of the cultural monument.
