Hill of Crosses of Merkinė is a memorial to Lithuanian guerrillas who died for the freedom of Lithuania from 1945 to 1953. The bodies of the guerrillas of the land of Dainava killed by encavedists were buried in this place. Hiding traces in 1972, a stadium was built there. In the time of the revival, the stadium was closed and crosses began to be built, some of which resemble genealogical trees with dates of death. Crosses not only for Lithuanians, but also for Ukrainian, German, who died in the ranks of Lithuanian guerrillas. In 2002, the remains of 6 murdered guerrillas were buried in the territory of Hill of Crosses, which was excavated near the former Merkinė encavedist headquaters. From here begins the cognitive pedestrian trail along the freedom fighting paths of Adolfas Ramanauskas-Vanagas.
