In 1867, in the eastern part of Nida, in Skruzdyne, the hotel of H. Blode was built. Lots of famous people have stayed here. Famous local historian, journalist, poet and the translator of the K. Donelaitis works into the German language L. Passarge was staying here in 1867. At the end of the XIX century, the composer of the late romantism, E. Humperding, was living here. Furthermore, in 1929, writer T. Mann was staying here too. In addition, poet W. Heymann used to love staying here as well. Moreover, at the end of the XIX century and the beginning of the XIXth century, the hotel became the main point for the Nida’s painters' colony. Many German painters stayed and worked here. Painters such as L. Corinthas, E. Bischopp-Culman, H. Beppo-Broschke, M. Pechstein and others. After the owner of the hotel passed away, tradition was carried by his painter son-in-law E. Mollenhauser.
