The geologists' pit is located in the Karajimiškis Landscape Reserve. The diameter of the pit is about 12 x 9.5 m, the depth is 5 m. The sinkhole opened in 2003, April 22, a few days before the Lithuanian Geologists' Day, therefore it was named the Geologists' Pit. At that time, the sinkhole had a diameter of 4.8 x 4.2 m and a depth of 8.11 m. In 2004, a new whole was observed, opening 1 m from the northwestern edge of the Geologists' Pit. In 2005 the sinkholes have merged and now form one sinkhole.
