The cone-shaped Gediminas Tomb Hill is surrounded by a terrace about 3 m wide with steep 10-25 m high slopes. The hill was called Gediminas Tomb Hill in the 19th century. Legend has it that the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas was buried on the hill in the 18th C. century, when the war with the Grand Duchy of Moscow took place. The surface of the hill was severely damaged by the installation of military fortifications in 19 C. – 20 C. Ditches were dug around the hill. Now, in the center of the Gediminas Tomb Hill site, there is an altar made of stone during the Lithuanian renaissance.
