Auksalė peninsula is on the south-western shore of Plateliai Lake, in the Laumalenkos Landscape Reserve. Parts of the peninsula have their own names: Golden, Great, Small Islands. They are overgrown with forest. The area of the swampy lake on the peninsula, called Pikežeris, is 2.7 ha. The maximum depth of it is 3.1 m. This lake is surrounded by an intermediate type swamp of about 13 ha. The name Auksalė is believed to have originated from the fact that the Count of Plateliai once cut down the mature forest that grew here and received a lot of gold for it. Auksalė is also called the Victim Island or Aukštsale. The area of the natural monument is 41.10 ha.
