The former narrow-gauge railway embankment overlooks both lakes, Apušis and Gilius. Aphids are a true paradise for birds and rare plants. The lake's reeds and scrubs harbor great baubles, reed springs, several pairs of earrings, fields, tufts, rattlesnakes, reindeer chickens, reeds, starters and a host of other birds. The lake and the lake are included in the Natura 2000 network of habitats of European importance.
