It is part of the Great Dune Ridge – a stretch of wind-blown sand dunes running across the entire Curonian Spit. The current appearance of Angių Hill took shape at the end of the 19th century, after this and neighboring dunes were planted with vegetation to stop the drifting of sand: between 1872 and 1875, Angių Hill was planted with mountain pines. The part of the dune rising above the water consists of fine-grained sand of aeolian origin; beneath it lies marine, mixed-grain sand and gravel deposits, which cover a moraine clay base situated at a depth of 80 meters.
