Angiu dune has a peculiar form of the impressive Aeolian relief of the Spit and part of the Great Dune Ridge. The current view of Angiu Hill was acquired at the end of 19th century, after planting this and the adjacent dunes with trees and thus stopping the sandstorm (between 1872 and 1875 Angiu Hill was planted with mountain pines; the planting work was supervised by a forester P. Gerhart). The fine-grained sand of aeolian origin, which forms this dune, lies from the surface to a depth of 50 m, followed by a marine multi-grain sand, which passes into gravel sediments that cover the moraine loam base at a depth of 80 m, which about 30 m below the water level of the Curonian Lagoon. On Angiu Hill, groundwater lies at a depth of 30 meters or more. The Nida Naval Observatory of the Lithuanian Navy is operating on the dune.
