Adolfas Ramanauskas-Vanagas Freedom Fighting Trails
The pedestrian route along the freedom fighting roads of Adolfas Ramanauskas-Vanagas from Merkine Hill of Crosses leads along paths and forest trails, through villages and bridesmaids' meadows, places where he took oaths, planned an attack on the Merkinė, dreamed of free Lithuania, took pictures and where Vanagas fought with his comrades. There were people who supported him, cared for him and protected him in the most desperate situation where there was only hope and belief alive that love would defeat hatred and fear. The pedestrian track ends on Merkinė Hill, on which Vanagas, a guerrilla commander, had repeatedly climbed and remained a Teacher until the last moment. From here, there is a view of Lithuania, whose freedom was fought for by Lithuanian guerrillas. Route length 23 km.
